This first installation of Bal-Last systems served a unique and challenging project. Located on a private common drive these residents were looking for a solution to septic system issues. The access to the homes vis winding dirt roads over a relatively flat grade led to the chose for pressure sewer. Soils in this lakefront location were very difficult to dig.

Each bucket came up wet flowing clay and organic soil. The designer and contractor chose to utilize Horizontal Directional Drilling or HDD. This allowed for the installation of all pipelines and only required excavation for lateral connections and pump installations.

The engineer and installing contractor were open to trying our new Bal-Last interlocking ballast. This avoided the difficulties of trying to pour concrete ballast rings in wet and unstable ground.

The HDD process moved very smoothly. Pipelines could meander around curves and allowed for pipelines to be pulled back through the drilled holes.

Drilling process with Ditch Witch machine sends the drill from a launch point to a receiver hole. The drill rig then pulls the pipe material back to the starting point As pie is fed, splices are made with a butt fusion machine.
